Steel Thin Hex Nut 5

ISO 898-2 class 5 thin hexagon (jam) nuts to DIN 439 / ISO 4035. Height is roughly half a standard DIN 934 nut, metric coarse thread. Listed M3–M56. Intended for class 4.8 assemblies.

Two roles: (1) lock a standard nut by jamming against it, (2) fit where headroom is too small for a full-height nut. A thin nut used alone has less thread engagement — do not treat it as the primary clamp on a loaded 4.8 joint unless the design accounts for the reduced height. For vibration locking, a DIN 985 lock nut is usually clearer than a jam pair.
