Reserve for space-constrained 10.9 assemblies or as a jam nut against a full-height class 10 nut. Reduced height means reduced thread engagement — high-preload joints normally want a full DIN 934 class 10 (or HV DIN 6915) as the primary nut. Coating of 10.9/class 10 parts should follow hydrogen-embrittlement practice.
