ISO 898-1 property class 8.8 socket head cap screws to DIN 912 / ISO 4762. Quenched and tempered, 800 MPa nominal tensile, cylindrical head, internal hex. The default high-tensile cap screw for fixtures, moulds, guarding, and machinery. Listed M3–M33.
Specify class 8.8 when the joint is load-bearing but not at 10.9 preload. Counterbore to DIN 974 (or the drawing) so the head sits flush. Use class 8 nuts if nutted; into steel tapped holes follow the engagement-length rules. For a flush 90° head use DIN 7991; for a low head use DIN 6912; for a rounded visible head use ISO 7380.
