ISO 898-1 property class 10.9 socket head cap screws to DIN 912 / ISO 4762. Alloy steel, quenched and tempered to 1000 MPa, for high-preload counterbored joints. Listed M3–M33. This is the grade most machine designers mean by “high-tensile cap screw”.
Choose 10.9 for machine tools, presses, hydraulic manifolds, and compact joints that would otherwise need a larger 8.8 screw. Mate with class 10 nuts. Electroplated coatings on 10.9 require controlled process (hydrogen embrittlement). Button or countersunk heads of the same class do not develop the same tensile capacity as this cylindrical head.
