Galvanized purlins: pre-galvanized Z275 C, Z and Sigma sections
Cold roll-formed C, Z, Sigma and U sections from pre-galvanized S350GD+Z275 and S420GD+Z275 strip: size ranges, lengths up to 25 m, punched holes and how to order.
Request a quoteWe roll purlins, girts and other cold-formed sections from pre-galvanized strip to EN 10346. The zinc is applied to the coil in a continuous hot-dip line before forming, so every section leaves the mill coated, cut to length and punched — ready to bolt up without painting.
Grades and coating
| Material | Min. yield strength | Coating |
|---|---|---|
| S350GD+Z275 | 350 MPa | Zinc, 275 g/m² total on both faces |
| S420GD+Z275 | 420 MPa | Zinc, 275 g/m² total on both faces |
Z275 corresponds to roughly 20 µm of zinc on each side. Where the coating is cut or punched, zinc protects the exposed steel sacrificially, so cut edges and holes are protected in normal atmospheres. S420GD gives about 20% more yield strength than S350GD for the same section, which can allow a lighter size or a longer span.
Profiles and size range
Every size in our catalogue is available in both galvanized grades. Each size page shows the coil width, section properties and a drawing, and the material can be selected there.
| Profile | h (mm) | b (mm) | t (mm) | kg/m | Sizes |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| C | 100–400 | 50–100 | 1.5–4 | 2.55–19.61 | 84 |
| C Plus | 100–400 | 85–100 | 1.5–4 | 4.46–19.67 | 77 |
| Z | 100–400 | 50–100 | 1.2–4 | 2.25–19.61 | 80 |
| Sigma | 160–400 | 50–100 | 1.5–4 | 3.66–20.4 | 85 |
| Sigma Plus | 195–400 | 85–95 | 1.5–4 | 5.33–19.64 | 57 |
| U | 100–400 | 53–97 | 1.5–4 | 2.35–17.25 | 84 |
Omega (top-hat) and angled C sections are rolled to your dimensions in the same materials. See C, Z or Sigma purlins for help choosing the profile, and the size tables for weights.
Lengths, holes and minimum order
- Lengths: 6 m or 12 m, or cut to any length from 1 m to 25 m.
- Holes: punched in the line to your drawing, so sections arrive ready for bolting.
- Minimum order: 5 t per size and material.
- Documents: EN 10204 3.1 certificates on request.
Where Z275 fits
Z275 is the most common purlin specification in Europe and a sound default for enclosed industrial, commercial and storage buildings. For livestock buildings, coastal sites or other aggressive environments, consider Magnelis (ZM). The purlin coatings guide compares all options by exposure.
How to order
Write the section and material together, for example Z 200×60×15×2, S350GD+Z275, and send it with lengths, quantities and hole positions through the quote form.
Questions
Do cut ends and punched holes need touch-up?
In normal indoor and rural atmospheres the zinc protects small cut edges and holes sacrificially. Site cuts and drilled holes in aggressive environments should be treated with a zinc-rich paint, as your specification requires.
Can galvanized purlins be welded?
They can, but welding burns off the zinc around the weld. Bolted connections keep the coating intact; where welding is unavoidable, use fume extraction and restore the coating with zinc-rich paint.
Is the coating thickness the same on all sizes?
Yes. The coating comes with the strip, so Z275 is the same on every thickness and profile we roll from it.
