Steel Coupling Nut 5

ISO 898-2 class 5 hexagon coupling nuts (rod couplers / extension nuts) to DIN 6334. A long internally threaded hex sleeve — typically about 3d — used to join two threaded rods or a stud to a rod. Metric coarse, listed M5–M20. Pair with class 4.8 rod.

Typical on hangers, bracing, and fabricated studs that must be made longer than a single bar. Both rods should enter far enough for full engagement; a jam nut on each side is common practice. Use class 5 couplers with 4.8 rod — a class 5 coupler on 8.8 rod becomes the weak link. For higher-load hangers use class 8 couplers and 8.8 rod.
