ISO 898-2 property class 8 slotted castle (castellated) nuts to DIN 935 / ISO 7035. Radial slots take a split pin through a drilled class 8.8 bolt, locking the nut in a discrete, inspectable position. Listed M4–M52. The bolt must be drilled for the pin.
Specify when the drawing calls for a castellated nut and split pin on an 8.8 fastener. Nylon lock nuts are easier to assemble but hide the lock; castle nuts remain inspectable. The bolt must be drilled for the pin. Do not substitute a class 5 castle nut under an 8.8 bolt.
