ISO 898-1 property class 8.8 carriage (coach) bolts to DIN 603 / ISO 8677. Smooth mushroom head and square neck — the square pulls into timber or a square hole so the bolt does not spin while the nut is tightened. Quenched and tempered, listed M6–M20.
Specify class 8.8 for heavier timber structures, playground and park equipment, and steel-to-timber joints that outgrow 4.8. The square neck still needs a hole or timber that can take it; in steel plate a square hole or a captured square washer is required. Mate with class 8 nuts. Not a substitute for a hex structural bolt in steel-to-steel work.
