ISO 898-1 class 4.8 carriage (coach) bolts to DIN 603 / ISO 8677. A smooth mushroom (cup) head and a square neck under the head: the square pulls into timber or a square hole and stops the bolt from turning while the nut is tightened. Listed M6–M20.
The standard fastener for timber frames, decking, fencing, and light steel-to-wood connections. Class 4.8 is appropriate for these loads. The head is not wrenchable — tightening is from the nut side. Pair with a class 5 nut and a washer under the nut (not under the head). For heavier timber or steel-to-timber, use class 8.8 carriage bolts.
