Typical on railings, furniture, display frames, machine guards, and any joint where an open hex nut would leave a sharp thread. The dome limits how much thread the nut can accept — check protrusion length before specifying. Cap nuts are not lock nuts; for vibration add a proper locking method or use a lock nut under a cap only if the stack-up allows.
